Grand Duchess Olga Nikolaevna (1895-1918)

The first-born of Emperor Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra Feodorovna was born on November 3 [O.S.], 1895.

Olga was the embodiment of Christian virtues, modest, with a compassionate soul. During the World War I she was a sister of mercy. The Tsar's family devoted all its time to the wounded and sick soldiers. Olga tried not to show her high position; she was always delicate and simple in communication with the wounded. In the memoirs of one of the officers S.P. Pavlov, who was a patient of the infirmary in Tsarskoe Selo, is mentioned a conversation with the duchess: "Once the Grand Duchess Olga told me that tomorrow they will not be in our infirmary because they will have to visit the infirmary of the Great Palace (Catherine Palace) and that they will be very bored there. With her inherent soft and shy smile, the Grand Duchess explained the reasons for this boredom: "Everything is so strict and official there that we have to watch every step we take, because there we are in the spotlight. We never liked it there and the sisters there are so serious. Only in our infirmary do we feel ourselves well and cozy! "She fell under the first bullets in the Ipatiev House on the night of July 16, 1918.
